Do you guys have any interesting habits when it comes to buying records?

I'm notorious for trolling through the clearance aisle at Amoeba, and when I see something that simply looks interesting--as in, it has interesting album art--I will pick it up. It has worked out in several instances!

The best instance was with Junk Science, when I found their record, "Feeding Einstein," in the clearance aisle. Maybe the best $2.99 I have ever spent.

Any habits you have?

Well I'm a sucker for a limited edition. Even if I already have the album, if it's decent I'll get the L.E. version, too.

As far as album art, that's kinda the 6th degree of how I discovered UD. There was a CD haunting me at the local record store, DJ Yoda's How To Cut And Paste Mix Tape Vol. 1, which had wacky, zany cover art. After 4 weeks of picking it up and not knowing even what kind of music it was I bought it. Eye On The Gold Chain was on it, which was how I discovered UD.

..to be honest.. I used to keep track of various producers etc.. who's work I enjoyed.. these days I just sort of trawl about for stuff and take a punt on what I fancy.. it could be the LP cover.. a title... a guest appearance.. etc...

i have a crazy knock on effect working for me.
discover someone like j rawls in 2001, loved his album so instantly looked for everything on rawcus records(it was good back then) grab everything rawls works with, grab everything they work with, etc etc.
now i have a couple hundred mc's i instantly look for on an lp, if they feature, i know i'll like something on that album.

im one of the worlds pickiest hip hop fans, i can listen to 100 albums and not like one, it has to be just so, or i cant afford it the time to get into it, its an unfortunate by product of over exposure to music, or obsession ???
