Help with new music!

Post  BiG Al on Fri Apr 17, 2009 1:27 pm

Alreet guys and gals!
I have started to Dj in my local (MP3's tho but starting to use Serato) and I have been doing it for about 6 months.
I always manage to play decent stuff but I am finding it difficult finding new ideas.
I play a mix of Hip Hop, Rock, Blues, Indie, funk and Breaks........with artist such as The Black Keys, UD, Captain Beefheart.......anything I can get my hands on.
Its a pub with a large music following crowd and I have to try and please all peeps at least once a night.
So does anyone have any ideas for tracks that you think I should make sure I play?

Help would cool,

Al

House of Pain - Jump Around always gets them moving
Staying Alive - Bee Gees, segues nicely with HoP then...
Insane in the Brain - Cypress Hill, onto...
We Will Rock You - Queen (it works, honest!)
and cram in King of the Beats by Mantronix somewhere, along with The Choice is Yours by Black Sheep!

You back up north, or Bristol fashion?

Hmm because you have a mix of people their I suggest a couple of tracks like this:

Hip-Hop:

Rootdown - Beastie Boys (classic!)
Know How - Young MC (just because everyone will realise the Shaft hook)
The Grind - People Under The Stairs
A Peak In Time - Cut Chemist (nice Brazilian hook)
Ill culinary behaviour - DJ Format (can't go wrong with any Format track)
The Breakdown - People Under The Stairs (one of my favourites)

Soul:
Bob Brady and the Concorde's Everybody's goin to a love in
Marlena Shaw - California Soul
The Flirtations - Nothing But A Hearthache

Funk:
Scorpio - Dennis Coffey
Spinnin - Bernard Wright
I believe in miracles - Jackson Sisters

Hope this helps Smile

Indeed right at the start, I was also impressed to see that Einstein and Abdominal won an award for pedal pusher and received a $5000 cheque.
