How did you discover UD?
I'm sure I told this fable on the original forum, but just in case, here it is again:
I ventured into my local record store where I saw this CD with a quirky cover (see below) sitting on the shelf (at full price). I looked at it, had heard of none of the 35 tracks on it, so put it down. The next week, same thing. This CD cover was just haunting me. This went on for over a month, I just couldn't justify paying full price for a CD of which I had no idea even what genre the music was, let alone the content of it.
So I bought it.
On that CD was Eye On The Gold Chain, by some group called Ugly Duck (or ugly Herring, or something like that). It was some years after that when I saw Taste The Secret, and knew I knew the group. The album cover was funny, so I bought it. Oddly, I loved that one too.
I guess it's true that you CAN judge a book by its cover.
That's my story.

Re: How did you discover UD?
I remember coming across UD when listening to DJ Yoda's mixtape as-well, at first I overlooked most of the tracks but then my brother brought over Taste the Secret, I couldn't get enough of it, I transfered it to tape put it on my stereo and went cycling around Rutland water with it on in my rucksack with a few mates on a school trip. I then had a listen to JTA and as soon as I heard Just A Little Samba I knew I'd found my favourite group, I haven't look back since.
Downside is though I've become exceptionally geeky as I'm trying to get all of the discography

I heard A Little Samba, one night in a club bowt 7-8 years ago . Bugged the DJ to tell me what it was, thought need to hear more or this stuff. Got Journey to Anywhere album. Hooked ever since.

Re: How did you discover UD?
Went to see the Jungle Brothers in 1999 (I think!) and the support group were a bunch of white geezers I'd never heard of. They turned out to be better than the JB's and I would have bought their album at the merch stall afterwards, but I was too shy to say hi, lol!

Re: How did you discover UD?
Well I first heard "A Little Samba" during a Jo Whiley session, (one of the rare times I listen to Radio 1). That song was stuck in my head for a while and I just caught the name of the band. So many months later, while I was walking around the now defunct MVC, I saw Journey to Anywhere for about three bucks. Thought that was a bargain, and to be honest I never looked back.
Thank you Jo Whiley and MVC.

Re: How did you discover UD?
ha ha, it's all still a bit hazy for me really... possibly due to copious 'smoking'... but i recall hearing samba when it dropped and i pretty much knew right there and then that what i was hearing was exactly what i'd been missing all my life... every new album after that always had at least one track that completely blew me away... nail on the head type stuff...
i'll never tire of it

Heard "A Little Samba" on JJJ (ah, how I miss triple J!), tracked down this Ugly Duckling mob, and thus a love affair began...and continues!

Digital TV
I heard "Down the Road" on the Hip Hop station on digital TV. Been a UD fan ever since.

Re: How did you discover UD?
Noob here, first post.
A few years ago I was scrolling through the friends list of PUTS, Time Machine or another group's MySpace looking for fresh sounds and stumbled across UD. One of the first things I saw was the Smack video, and since then I've been hooked and bought every album off of iTunes.
Side bar: I want to do my part to support these guys so does anyone know which vendor profits the group the most?

Might I suggest UD aprons, or to be even more specific - Meatshake aprons? I'd buy one, or more if it was close to Christmas.

I need the full set, pronto.
Maybe one of them could get their own range of Tefal pans and stuff, a la Jamie Oliver.
