What are you listening to?

Post  turntablist on Sun Mar 29, 2009 8:00 am

I was wondering what everyone else is listening to at the moment, either tracks or entire albums.

At the moment I'm really enjoying the mixes off sixmillionsteps:

http://www.sixmillionsteps.com/drupal/

They're great if you want to try out something new.

Nice one, thanks for the tip! Had a bit of a listen, downloading now, good selection of tunes.

If you want classic mixes, try getting your hands on The Avalanches sets on the Breezeblock. They've had a couple, but specifically seek out the one that mashes up Sgt Pepper with J5 near the end.

At the moment, I'm diggin' on "Slurped Too," a 45 EP mix session of funk & soul tunes, DJ Shadow (most of his stuff, but especially the Mashin' On The Motorway/Walkie Talkie EP, which has a Soulwax remix of Six Days, a Z-Trip remix of Right Thing and an Uncle remix of GDMFSOB).

I'm also lovin' some acoustic blues by a local artist here, Geoff Achison. I can't go past a good Ben Harper tune ar Xavier Rudd, either. Xavier Rudd is quite similar to John Butler, but less arrogant.

I remember a time when I bought a lot of the 45's of the mix, that was when I had a bit more disposable cash Wink I regret selling on my copy of Jason Pew Mosso. The DJ Shadow EP you're talking about is excellent! I absolutely loved it.

That's one thing that breaks my heart; when people sell parts of their music collection. To me, if you buy music, it's for life.

I worked with a fella who owned an orginal 45 single of "Defacate On My Face," by TISM (This Is Seirous Mum). He sold his entire collection of 45's for $500. That single alone was worth $550.

Ouch! Well I never sell my records, but in this case I was going on holiday with my girlfriend for the first time and it was the only way to get the cash. I also sold a copy of La Planet Sauvage Sad it'll be very expensive for me to get another copy now!

So with the exception of that one event I don't plan on selling my records, I love them too much!

Yep, that's the one! The track listing is great, but the way it's put together is amazing.

I must admit I've hardly listened to any new hiphop lately; the only exception possibly being the new record by Aceyalone & The Lonely Ones. (You can stream the whole album from www.myspace.com/aceyalone).

Other than that I'm listening to a bunch of fairly inobscure stuff: Lykke Li, TV On The Radio, MGMT, Friendly Fires, Santogold, Fleet Foxes, Glasvegas, Vampire Weekend.

I'm also diggin' on my latest acquisition, the Gorillaz "D Sides" double album. I'm quite the fan of the DFA remix of Dare (DFA are basically LCD Soundsystem).

Funner Than Leather Mix

Downloaded this a while back but now I've come back to it there are some great tracks in it. It definitely has an old skool rap tape sound to it.
