Re: Peanut Butter Wolf - Tonight In Bristol
Well the gig was really quiet! all the better for the people who were there. The opening DJ played some good old school hip-hop and the usual b-boy breaks so that was a welcome start. The next DJ started with an AV set scratching up early Batman and Terry Wogan then gradually moving into kung-fu films and plenty of cult videos.
His scratching was excellent and his beat juggling was worth the £10 entry on his own.
Peanut Butter Wolf came on at about 12am and played some top Stones Throw tracks (Wildchild, MF Doom, Madlib etc) then plenty of later 80's and early 90's hip-hop (think Yo 45 raps!)
His set lasted until 2:30, and he played pretty much everything, disco, hip-hop, funk, jazz, reggae (I'm not a fan). When it came to 2am he decided to open up the floor to tracks asking for any requests, he decided to play some unreleased Madlib and a new MF Doom accapella which went down a treat. Afterwards he came down and mingled with the leftover crowd from 100 people to begin with at that height of the set to about 30 and we got some stuff signed and just had a chat. He's quite down to earth and is still very much geeky but overall it was a good night.
It was also good to see one UD fan wearing his blue and yellow t-shirt.
