yeah exactly that and more, my point is this,

I'm not against piracy, hell we all do it wheather it be tape to tape, downloading or whatever. We all like to get a little something for nothing right?

Trouble is there's a lot of people out there who are not like you and me, supporting the artist.

Which in turn makes it extremely difficult in todays day and age to get signed and make a living out of making great music.
So instead, record companies will only sign a guaranteed seller..... we get super commercial gansta rap/hiphop which the kids will buy. Which sends a good message to them ay? Ah nevermind its all got consequences. In a perfect world maybe just maybe a ud track could hit the top 40. But then hey! all the underground lovers would be put out.

To sum up my feelins about current hiphop and the music scene in general is, I wish mp3s didn't exist and that you still had to by a hard copy from the shops so when you paid for that music you'd appreciate alot more!!!

I think you both have very legitimate arguments.

The basis of the piracy issue is exactly the same as it was back in the SA-90 days (even back then I liked high quality metal tapes and would only get the D-90 if I was desperate). It's simply a much, much, much larger scale.

If you think about it, I would buy a vinyl and do a copy for a dozen mates, who would in turn probably do a copy for another dozen of their mates. By that theory, there would 140+ copies of that album for which the artist has been paid for one.

Now you have the computer machines and the internets. You have one person who's bought the CD (and usually enetered the ID3 tags completely inaccurately) and have literally thousands of people downloading it. By that reasoning, it's incomparable, even though it's still doing exactly the same thing.

And Fiddy Cent shits me. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Consider this as we're getting rather deep, in the 1920's radio was seen as giving away music which could have been sold. The music industry embraced radio using it as a promotional tool, how do you think they can overcome piracy or at least get it to work in their favour? they could continue suing people who download but to be honest they're walking into a dead end.

In the 1920's they didnt have tape recorders. You had to tune in and listen. No way to copy and forward or give out to people.. Was a great promo tool to guy out and buy but impossible to share.

Not that I've ever made music; nor ever even had the chance. However, my Aunt Kate is a songwriter; and if you told her that it was "Too easy to make music these days" she would probably chuckle.

I'm not hating; but I just thought I'd add that even though bad music is easy to produce....Good music isn't. Given she's not major; but still. You see what I'm saying right?

dunno what you guys make of drum n bass? but theres a dude that makes cross over hip hop and liquid drum n bass called alix perez, he has an album call 1984 out and features foreign beggars and yungun.

its very well produced, and this guy is a real up and comer in the d n b scene, and its a little escape from alot of shite hip hop thats out there

Why would it be wrong to like Lupe Fiasco as he is possibly one off the best things to happen to hip hop in the past 5 years!?!

Lupe is one off the most creative people I have ever heard. Both his albums are pretty amazing. You really have to break down his lyrics at times to catch things.

Some interesting stuff in this thread, but as far as new albums go I'm enjoying Fashawn - Boy Meets World, Brother Ali - Us, Get Busy Committee - Uzi Does It, Apathy - Wanna Snuggle and Del & Tame One - Parallel Uni-Verses.

There is still good Hip Hop to be had and in the end it's all down to personal taste, just listen to whatever you enjoy.

Excuse me while I dig out my copy of Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em

I think I like Del's music a bit too much.
